Student athletes,
how to make my college list
Start big and work your way in
- Start Big: As you research your colleges and find schools that fit your filters, how big should the list be? At max, your list should be no smaller than 25 and no bigger than 50. You want to force yourself to consider schools you maybe haven’t heard of before but also focus enough attention on the schools that you are interested in. This number will give you a good range. It’s not a permanent list so you can be open to adding a school here and there.
- Defining parameters: Each year your list will shrink as your filters become more defined. With each year as you continue to talk with your current coaches, follow players ahead of you, and develop your academics your list will surley get smaller. Remember this is the goal. To find your new home.
- Matching interests: Also, as you get closer to graduation you must keep an eye out for who is interested in you as well. Never close doors completely because you never know who may get a new opening spot. Building relationships is a continuous task that will be required of you as you find your match.
- Then there was 1: At the end of the day you can only choose one. So make sure the school fits you. Just as you are finding the right fit the colleges are doing the same. They will do their homework on you as well. This will be your home for the next four years, so you’ll want to choose a school where you’ll be comfortable and find success.
